The Hepworth-Shallow Lake Legion is reopening its doors this week with a new executive.
District C Deputy Commander Rob Butchart says Legion Branch 586 in Hepworth held a successful election last week to replace the previous executive who all resigned, leading the branch to close.
“Every position was filled. They are ready to move forward, they are actually reopening this Thursday with their regular scheduled events on Thursday, Friday and Saturday,” says Butchart.
The executive is comprised of a president, two vice presidents, and five executive members.
“This is excellent progress to see. Moving forward we are fully confident that things will go as usual here,” says Butchart. “The new executive is very keen to get up and running and get back on track to the way there are supposed to be.”
He is unsure why the previous executive all resigned.
“The executive, I believe, were just tired and fed up with some of the issues that were maybe happening and they all decided to resign, which is unfortunate. It would have been better if we could have worked it out and kept them in place as they usually have elections in April, but they decided en masse to resign and there was nothing we could do about it,” says Butchart.
Following the executive resigning, two trustees were appointed to handle the local legion, Butchart and Steve Rice.
“Steve and myself will be in place until mid March to guide them and lead them and get them going down the right track,” says Butchart. “The things they have planned this week, they should have a full house for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.”
Additionally, the building will be available to rent for events. More details can be found on the Legion’s Facebook page here.
