Owen Sound police have arrested and charged a man for allegedly attempting to commit fraud at a local bank.
City police say on Monday, January 12th, they were called to a bank after receiving reports of a man attempting to cash a $40,283.99 cheque.
They say their investigation revealed the man had recently opened an account with the bank using fraudulent identification.
The bank employees worked quickly to identify the cheque which police call ‘fraudulent,’ and contacted police.
Officers arrested a Guelph man on scene.
He is charged with fraud over $5,000, obstructing a peace officer, forged documents, fail to comply with conditions of his probation order.
He was held in custody at the Owen Sound Police Service pending a bail hearing scheduled for January 13th, 2026.
Owen Sound Police are thanking the employees of the bank who assisted in their investigation.
