The annual Sauble Beach Winterfest is coming up this month.
Sauble Beach Chamber of Commerce President Rebekah Larter says the popular event is returning Jan. 16 and 17, which also acts as a fundraiser.
The event begins with a parade at 7 p.m., which travels up Main Street to the Community Centre. Then at 7:30 p.m., the Sauble Fire Department will help host the annual Christmas tree burn before attendees can test their knowledge at trivia night at 8 at the Community Centre.
Pre-registration is required to attend trivia night.
“Trivia night always sells out, it’s a really good time. The community comes together because obviously we know it’s a fundraising opportunity for Amabel-Sauble Community School and the community, so we see lots of support,” says Larter.
Amabel-Sauble Community School will also be hosting a silent auction between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., as well as a dance.
The following day kicks off with a pancake breakfast between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. hosted by the Lions Club.
At 9:30 a.m., people can register to take part in road hockey before the games start at 10 a.m., and then at 1 p.m., there will be a horse shoe and euchre tournament.
Additionally, the Sauble Ski Club is hosting free trail trials from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rental equipment will be available on site for those looking to take part.
There will also be a kids zone between noon and 3 p.m.
“We have wagon rides and face painting, some balloon art, crafts, music, lots of fun stuff for everybody,” says Larter.
The day will end with a ticketed firefighters dance at 8 p.m.
“It’s Hawaiian themed, always lots of fun,” says Larter.
She says the event, which first started in 1976, has always been very popular in the community.
“It’s a great way for the community to get together in the off season as well as for our seasonal residents to come up and connect with everybody over the winter season and we also have lots of guests that come up to spend time with everybody and enjoy the weather,” says Larter.
