Safe ‘N Sound Grey Bruce is buying a new building to act as a year-round shelter space in Owen Sound.
The new shelter at 612 2nd Avenue East, which was purchased with the help of $500,000 in federal funding, will have 26 beds available to support the vulnerable members in the community.
It will provide nighttime supports, while daytime needs will continue to be addressed at the current location.
Safe ‘N Sound says following renovations, the shelter will also offer space for other agencies like Supportive Outreach Services, Brightshores, M’Wikwedong, CMHA, and others.
Executive Director Annette Pedlar says, “We are creating a place where people are received with dignity, warmth, and care. It is a proud step toward a community where everyone has a safe place to sleep. This achievement is significant, yet our work is not done. With ongoing community education, collaboration, and advocacy, we are working toward a future were every neighbour has a place to call home and support to thrive.”
Safe ‘N Sound says while the exact opening date has not yet been confirmed, it hopes the shelter will be ready early this year.
