James Petrovski had a pair of assists in his return to the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre as the Peterborough Petes held on to beat the Owen Sound Attack 5-3 in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday night.
Caden Taylor also put in a strong performance seeing his former team for the first time, finishing with a goal and an assist. Wesley Royston and Pierce Mbuyi also scored for the Attack (18-17-1-3).
Yanis Lutz, Kaden McGregor, Braydon McCallum, Aiden Young and Brennen Faulker had the goals for Peterborough (21-14-1-1), which won its third straight game.
The Attack fell behind 4-0 near the midway mark of the second period. Trenten Bennett started but was pulled after McGregor scored at 9:01 to put the Petes up four.
Then Owen Sound rallied with goals from Taylor and Royston to cut Peterborough’s lead to 4-2 after two.
Mbuyi brought the Attack within one with just over five minutes to go in the third. But that was as close as they would get.
Easton Rye made 41 saves in the win, while Bennett stopped 15 taking the loss. Matthew Koprowski stopped all nine shots he faced in relief.
The Attack outshot Peterborough 44-29 while going 1 for 4 on the power play; the Petes finished 2 for 8.
Next up for Owen Sound is a home game against Guelph Storm Wednesday.
HELP ON THE WAY?
Attack Head Coach Scott Wray says the team could have a couple of forwards return for Wednesday’s game against Guelph. Masen Wray has missed the past 21 games recovering from wrist surgery, and Max Delisle has been out the past four games with a shoulder injury.
The Attack bench boss says both Wray and Delisle could return Wednesday. That would be a big boost up front, as the injury-depleted Attack were without six regulars in their forward group. Nick Sykora, Jacob Therrien, Landon Jackman and Noah Nelson were all out for Owen Sound against Peterborough.
