Ryder Boulton’s third period goal stood as the game-winner as the Brantford Bulldogs held on to beat the Owen Sound Attack 2-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday afternoon at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Marek Vanacker also scored for Brantford (24-5-4-1), which avoided a third straight loss.
Pierce Mbuyi had the lone goal for the Attack (17-16-1-3), which lost its seventh game in a row.
Vanacker had the Bulldogs ahead 1-0 heading into the third.
Then it was Boulton who provided a key insurance goal at 12:12 of the third, finding a loose puck on a goal front scramble and popping it into the empty-net.
Mbuyi would score on the power play at 15:17, bringing Owen Sound within one. But that was as close as they would get.
The Attack took a bench minor for too many men on the ice with 54 seconds remaining, snuffing out their comeback attempt as the Bulldogs ended the game on the power play.
Ryerson Leenders made 32 saves in the win, while Matthew Koprowski stopped 22 taking the loss. The Attack outshot the Bulldogs 33-24 while going 1 for 5 on the power play; Brantford finished 0 for 2.
Next up for Owen Sound is a road game in Brampton New Year’s Eve.
