A Meaford man has been charged with impaired and dangerous driving after allegedly striking a guardrail on Highway 26.
A concerned citizen called in a report to Grey Bruce OPP about a possible impaired driver in the area of Highway 26 and Grey Road 112 in Meaford just after 6:30 p.m. Monday evening.
“The witness described to dispatch that the pick-up truck was driving with its four ways on, crossed the centre of the road and struck a guardrail, then continued on,” says OPP Const. Kody Lyons. “A short time later officers were able to locate the vehicle and driver.”
The 27-year-old Meaford man who was driving the truck was charged with operation while impaired and dangerous operation. He also had his licence suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a week.
Police say the accused was released and is due to appear in court next month.
OPP Const. Lyons applauded the citizen who contacted the OPP for helping to get an impaired driver off the road.
“We appreciate any person calling in possible impaired drivers, it helps us out,” Lyons says.
