Huron County council heard a delegation regarding proposed changes to the Smoking By-Law.
Council heard a presentation from Public Health Manager Angela Willert, and Public Health Promoter Laura O’Rourke from Huron Perth Public Health.
The proposed changes include specifically adding vaping, as well as the use of e-cigarettes and waterpipes in public spaces where cigarette smoking is already banned.
Further changes also update the definition of “property owner” to include anyone leasing or renting a property and looking to have a business centred around the use of waterpipes, or hookahs.
The update would also include those other uses of nicotine within the definition of the existing by-laws.
There would also be an update to changes in the cited Act that banned nicotine use in long-term care facilities, which was implemented in 2003, to be updated to the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021.
