West Grey and Hanover are entering into a boundary adjustment agreement.
West Grey Council approved having Mayor Kevin Eccles and the clerk enter into the agreement with Hanover during a meeting on Tuesday, while Hanover council gave its approval on Monday.
This is the culmination of discussions which have been ongoing since 2023 aimed at growth and achieving mutual prosperity between the two municipalities.
The discussions explored several options to achieve mutual prosperity across the region, before arriving at a boundary adjustment.
The agreement would add about 1,634 acres of land along Concession 1, 2 and 3 to Hanover in exchange for a financial compensation to West Grey of $10 million to be paid as instalments over the next 20 years.
West Grey CAO Michele Harris says the agreement will allow Hanover to plan for long-term growth and infrastructure needs.
This comes after on Oct. 30 when West Grey and Hanover reached an in-principle agreement to transfer the lands.
A formal restructuring proposal will now be submitted to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing where it will be reviewed and if approved, the restructuring can move forward.
The effective date of the boundary adjustment is projected for early 2026.
