The Festival of Northern Lights says someone stole their donation box in Harrison Park in Owen Sound.
They say on Monday at 1:37 a.m., surveillance video footage shows a person used tools to forcibly remove the volunteer group’s donation mailbox.
They are asking anyone with information about the theft to message the Festival of Northern Lights on Facebook or contact the Owen Sound police.
The festival says in a Facebook post, “This is the second theft of our donation box, we will no longer be using a physical donation box. If you would still like to make a donation, we gratefully accept e-transfers to info@fonl.ca”
They continue, “We truly appreciate all of your support. As a not-for-profit organization, we rely on sponsors and donations to build and maintain our displays, and we are very thankful for the generosity of our community.”
They add, “Let’s not give in to the negativity. The Festival of Northern Lights is here to bring joy and light to the dark nights of winter. It’s about friends, family and community. This community is amazing and the love and support you give us means so much to our team. Stuff happens. We move on together and get better.”
The Festival of Northern Lights is a volunteer based charity that relies on donations and sponsorships to fund its light displays downtown Owen Sound and in Harrison Park.
