"Rooted In Resilience," the cover of Huron County's new Climate Action Strategy.
Huron County council has approved a new climate change action strategy for the county.
The strategy, titled Rooted in Resilience, was the result of staff direction provided a year ago, which directed staff to work with all departments within the county to provide an update to the Corporate Climate Change Adaptation Plan (CCCAP).
Climate Change and Energy Specialist Derry Wallis presented the new strategy to County Council on Wednesday, which compiled input from staff, community members, partner organizations, and Indigenous communities.
Goals set forth by the initiative focus on six priority areas, including Healthy Air, Water and Land; Resilient Buildings and Infrastructure; Supporting Health, Safety, and Well-being; Empowering through Education and Outreach; A Healthy and Sustainable Economy; and Corporate Sustainability Leadership.
Rooted in Resilience will guide the County of Huron’s mitigation and adaptation actions moving forward. The actions outlined in this strategy will ensure Huron County can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as well as prepare for, respond to, and recover from climate-related events.
