Grey Highlands is awarding an over $199,000 contract to replace equipment at the Flesherton Arena to improve ice quality.
Council approved awarding the contract to KORE Mechanical to install a new evaporative condenser and flooded ammonia chiller at the arena during a meeting on Wednesday.
This comes as over recent seasons, arena staff have seen increasing mechanical failures, refrigerant leaks, higher maintenance costs, and occasional downtime affecting ice quality and arena operations.
The condenser and chiller need specialized equipment and installation, which Recreation and Facilities Manager Shawnette Duvall-Crouse says only KORE can provide.
Duvall-Crouse adds the new equipment will improve ice quality, system reliability and seasonal uptime.
Half of the project costs will come from the 2025 Capital Budget, while the other half will be covered through the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund.
