Saugeen Shores charged a driver who allegedly drove through a barricade during the Southampton Christmas Parade.
Town Police say they received a call just prior to 7:30 p.m. this past Friday that a vehicle had driven through a wooden road barricade used to control traffic during the Southampton Christmas Parade, and then proceeded down Victoria Street “erratically and almost struck parked vehicles.”
“The vehicle was stopped and a heated interaction was had between the driver and officers,” Saugeen Shores Police say in a release.
Police say the driver was detained. They allege he failed a roadside breath test.
Then after the 19-year-old man was transported back to the Saugeen Shores Police station for further testing, he allegedly kicked an officer in the stomach and refused to provide further samples.
Saugeen Shores Police say the 19-year-old Owen Sound man was charged with several offences, including impaired operation, dangerous operation and assault peace officer.
“We want to thank the parade bystanders who contacted and waved down police which allowed for a quick response and arrest,” Saugeen Shores Police say in a release.
