A bridge replacement project in rural Grey County has wrapped up.
The Municipality of West Grey sent out an advisory saying Bridge 44 on Northline Road — near Glenelg — has reopened to traffic.
Bridge 44 — also known as Scotchtown Bridge — closed in June for replacement. Since then, construction crews removed the old structure, and completed the installation of a new “precast rigid-frame concrete bridge.”
“The project included helical pile installation, waterproofing, reinforced concrete work, and newly paved road approaches,” a release from West Grey explains.
The old bridge was built in 1920 and was identified as a priority for replacement for safety reasons.
Since the completion of the bridge work, Northline Road between Glenelg Road 23 and Artemesia/Glenelg Townline has reopened to traffic.
“Investing in safe and reliable infrastructure is essential for our community. The replacement of Bridge 44 ensures that residents, businesses, and emergency services have dependable access for years to come. We thank everyone for their patience during construction and look forward to continued progress on our infrastructure priorities,” West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles says in a release.
Earlier this year, West Grey council approved a 10-year, $19.1-million plan for priority bridge replacements across the municipality.
