Grey Bruce OPP will now be equipped with body-worn cameras.
Constable Kody Lyons tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, “Body worn cameras are the next step in ensuring interactions between officers and the public are recorded accurately, improving evidence, quality and officer safety.”
Police say it’s the next step, alongside other detachments in the OPP West Region after the roll-out of in-car cameras, and their automated licence plate recognition system.
Lyons says the cameras are worn on the front of the officer’s vest and are clearly visible to anyone an officer may be interacting with. He says it will display a visible green ring with flashing lights when in standby mode, which will turn flashing red once the camera begins recording.
OPP say the full deployment of the cameras in Grey Bruce is expected to be complete as soon as practicable, though officers who have finished training will begin using them immediately. Lyons says the hope is to have all their officers trained in the next couple of weeks.
