Over $330,000 is being donated to holiday initiatives across the region from Bruce Power and its supplier partners.
The energy company worked with its employees, suppliers, the United Way of Bruce Grey, and the community to raise more than $60,000 for over 20 toy drives and hamper programs in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties.
Additionally, $2,000 was donated to each of the 38 local food banks in an effort to address the impact of food insecurity.
A combined $50,000 donation is being sent to meal programs in Chesley, Hanover, Walkerton, Owen Sound, Kincardine, and Port Elgin, while another $50,000 is being spread out amongst Safe ‘N Sound in Owen Sound, the YMCA’s Emergency Shelter Program in Bruce County, and SOS Grey County, which assists in addressing housing insecurity.
Local schools and women’s shelters also stepped up to distribute $60,000 in grocery store gift cards to local families.
Bruce Grey Child and Family Services, Huron-Perth Childrens Aid, Saugeen First Nation, and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation also received $40,000 worth of new warm winter clothing to distribute to local families.
Bruce Power Director of Community and External Affairs Maggie Tieman says there are growing challenges in local communities which make this time of year even more difficult for many in the region.
“We are very thankful for the support of our supplier partners, employees and our community for helping make the holiday season brighter for our families across the region,” says Tieman.
