A major road reconstruction project in Owen Sound will begin wrapping up this week.
An advisory from the City of Owen Sound says the 9th Avenue East rehabilitation job is nearing completion, and 6th Street East in front of Lee Manor long-term care facility will reopen by Wednesday. It’s been closed since July.
The $5.1-million 9th Avenue East revamp includes the replacement of underground infrastructure, enhanced sidewalks and ashphalt resurfacing. The city received $2.7-million from the province’s Connecting Links program to put towards this project.
“This project will have a positive long-term impact for all users of this section of road, as well as the residents, businesses and institutions who will benefit from the replacement of aging watermain infrastructure,” Owen Sound’s Director of Public Works & Engineering Lara Widdifield says in a release.
Bus shelters located at Lee Manor and the Owen Sound courthouse building on 9th Avenue East that have been out of service due to the construction project, will be reinstated by Wednesday.
“Once these stops are reinstated, the temporary bus stop locations at the corner of 8th Avenue and 6th Street and at 617 8th Avenue East will be discontinued,” a release from the city explains.
