The Kincardine Hospital has gotten the green light from the Ministry of Health to move on to the next step of its capital planning process.
The advancement, announced by the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, brings the final stage of detailed planning before approval to proceed with construction for the hospital’s redevelopment.
The redevelopment project will include an expansion and modernization of the emergency department, diagnostic imaging, which includes an MRI suite, laboratory, decontamination room, and lobby. Work will also be done for the loading bays.
A majority of the hospital was constructed over 40 years ago, and needs to be redeveloped to meet the demands of modern health care needs within the community.
The construction includes the expansion of the Kincardine hospital’s existing amenities, and will make the emergency department, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging almost three times larger than the current space.
In addition to the significant investment being made by the Ministry of Health to redevelop and expand the Kincardine hospital, the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation has been working closely with SBGHC since the start of the redevelopment project in 2017 and have set a fundraising goal of $18 million to support the local share for the project and other capital equipment needs for the Kincardine hospital.
The Building Health Care for Generations capital fundraising campaign has raised almost $12 million to date.
