The momentum has fizzled to protect Lake Simcoe.
That’s the gist of a report released Tuesday from the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition.
Back in 2016, the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan was unveiled with pledges of support from the federal and provincial governments, and local municipalities. But Ottawa and Queen’s Park have since backed off, and the lake’s health continues to get worse.
The report makes more than a dozen recommendations on everything from reducing road salt and phosphorus to offering tax breaks for lands kept in their natural state. It also notes that local governments and agencies are doing the bulk of the work — but need the support of senior levels of government.
