Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation Chief Darlene Johnston is stepping down.
The First Nation issued a statement confirming Johnston’s resignation.
In a statement, Johnston says, “I resigned from my position as your chief, effective immediately, due to medical reasons.”
She adds, “It has been my honour to have served you, even for such a short period of time. I will continue to serve our community in my personal capacity as soon as I am able to do so.”
Nawash Head Councillor Jessica Keeshig-Martin has been named Acting Chief.
