Jimmy Lombardi scored twice and Alex Kostov had a three-point game as the Flint Firebirds downed the Owen Sound Attack 6-3 in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday afternoon at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Nathan Aspinall, Josh Bonnyman and Bryson Morgan also scored for Flint (17-6-1), which extended its winning streak to nine games.
Lenny Greenberg, Noah Nelson and Tristan Delisle had the goals for the Attack (15-9-0-2), which fell to 0-3 against the Firebirds this season.
The Attack managed four of six points in a three-in-three weekend, picking up wins over Guelph and Ottawa, before falling to the Firebirds.
Flint led 4-1 after two, and the Attack pulled within one prior to the midway mark of the third period on a Delisle power play goal. But just 45 seconds later, Aspinall hammered a one-time shot from the slot past Carter George to put Flint back up by two.
Lombardi would seal it with an empty-netter in the final minute.
Mason Vaccari made 34 saves in the win, while George stopped 26 taking the loss. The Attack outshot the Firebirds 37-32 while going 1 for 4 on the power play; Flint finished 3 for 6.
Next up for Owen Sound is a trip to Windsor Wednesday to take on the Spitfires.
