The path to getting a new high school in Alliston is now a bit more clear.
New Tecumseth Council has approved a land exchange agreement with the Simcoe County District School Board.
Mayor Richard Norcross says the community has been been promised a replacement for Banting High School for many years.
The exchange will see the school board gain control of approximately 25 acres of the Banting Homestead property.
The town will then acquire the existing Banting Memorial High School and the G.A. Wright Athletic Field.
Officials say the land exchange will be completed with no financial compensation from either party.
No specific timetable has been presented by the School Board for the start of construction.
The current high school was built in 1951 and has been in need of major repairs and renovations for years.
