Provincial Police say they’ve charged a 32-year-old man after a series of incidents involving “arson, assault and property damage” at a housing complex in Holstein.
Grey Bruce OPP officers responded to a call from Dundalk Fire Services just after 10:30 a.m. this past Friday, regarding “a suspected arson” at a housing complex on Grey Road 109 in Holstein.
“Information received indicated that the individual was still on scene and allegedly in possession of a knife. Due to safety concerns, emergency responders sheltered in place and the complex was placed under lockdown until police arrived,” the OPP say in a release.
Police say they determined a tenant at the residence allegedly attempted to gain access to another apartment, before setting fire to a bag and causing property damage.
The OPP allege a physical altercation occurred shortly after, between the suspect and another person at the apartment complex.
Grey Bruce OPP claim the accused then used a knife to damage property, including a window screen and a vehicle parked in the area.
“Police located and arrested the individual at the scene without incident,” OPP say in a release.
A 32-year-old Holstein man was arrested and faces assault, arson, mischief and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose charges.
The accused was released from custody after appearing at a bail hearing Saturday.
