Meaford is honouring the four members of the local sailing school for rescuing the woman who accidentally drove off the harbour wall last year.
Mayor Ross Kentner presented Griffin Dauphinee and Kyle Gilas with certificates of heroic actions during a meeting on Monday.
On July 29, 2024, Gilas, one of the Directors of Sail Georgian Bay, saw a car head into the water while attending a meeting that evening.
Gilas and three others, including Dauphinee, Nathan Brand and Ilian Malibertsma sprung into action, smashing the window of the vehicle and pulled the driver to safety from the sinking vehicle.
“Your courage has left an indelible mark on our community and we are truly inspired by your example,” says Kentner.
Kentner says Brand and Malibertsma were not able to attend the meeting.
“All four demonstrated incredible courage and selflessness, putting the safety of another above their own. On behalf of the Municipality of Meaford, it’s my privilege to present some certificates of recognition to Griffin and Kyle with our deepest gratitude to all four for their heroic actions,” says Kentner.
