Meaford is appointing Eric Ennis to the vacant council seat.
Council approved the appointment during a special meeting on Tuesday.
Ennis was sworn in during the meeting and will serve for the remainder of the term of council. His first council meeting will be on Nov. 3.
This comes after last month when council declared the seat vacant following Steven Bartley resigning from the role as his family planned to move to Chatsworth, outside the boundaries of Meaford.
Council opted to call for nominees to fill the vacant council seat, where residents applied through the municipality’s website.
Mayor Ross Kentner says, “Council remains focused on ensuring residents are well represented in all matters before them. We look forward to welcoming the new Councillor to the table and continuing our work on behalf of the community.”
Ennis says he is honoured by council’s confidence.
“I look forward to listening, learning, and working with residents and staff on priorities that matter most to Meaford,” says Ennis.
On Ennis’ website, he says his family has been visiting Meaford for 40 years before he eventually moved to the area from Mississauga.
He lives on a small farm in Annan, which he says further developed his understanding of a sustainable lifestyle and agricultural living.
Ennis sits on Meaford’s Economic Development Advisory Committee and over the summer he began working on economic development and community engagement initiatives with the Métis Nation of Ontario’s Lands, Resources, and Consultations branch.
Ennis says, “I am looking forward to using my unique perspective and skillset to represent our community’s vision for a great future in Meaford.”
