The Bluewater Toastmasters is celebrating 50 years this month.
President Jay Cox says the club, which covers the Grey Bruce region, helps train people in delivering speeches as well as develop leadership skills.
“People use it for different types of things. People come to do speeches like in TED Talks, but others come just because they need to give a wedding speech or a eulogy or some kind of presentation at work. They come to us and look for some assistance on how they would approach that,” says Cox.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Bluewater Toastmasters, Cox says they are holding a celebration on Oct. 30 at Royal Lepage RCR Realty in Owen Sound at 6:30 p.m., and everyone is invited.
“We were founded October 1975 so it is a big year for us. We are actually getting together in person,” says Cox. “We have got a big cake for us and we actually have someone who will be speaking on giving a history of Bluewater Toastmasters and what the international Toastmasters are all about, which was founded in 1924.”
Both past Bluewater Toastmasters and local dignitaries have been invited to attend the celebration.
“It has benefited many people in our community and beyond. recently within our community, there have been politicians, people that use it to present more effectively at work or just more comfortably speaking in front of others,” says Cox.
