Some live fire training is coming up at the military base in Meaford.
This coming weekend, residents in the area of the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre may hear guns firing.
Soldiers from 56th Field Artillery Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery will be conducting exercises there from October 24th-26th.
A statement from the Department of National Defence says noise from ranges at the training centre may be heard between 7:30 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on those days.
They say, “Residents may notice a succession of loud noises during this time. Noise may be heard from weapons and large-calibre guns firing simultaneously. This exercise is purely for training purposes and at no time will safety or security of the public be in jeopardy.”
They add, “Without the support of local communities, military members would not be able to accomplish their mission. Local
communities provide key supports and services to military members that are necessary and appreciated. Activities on base occasionally impact the local area. While this may be unavoidable at times, 4 CDTC appreciates the understanding of local residents and does not underestimate this very important reciprocal relationship.”
