Meaford is approving an over $1.3 million contract for next year’s waste collection services.
Council approved awarding the new waste collection and disposal contract to Miller Waste Systems for a six-year term during a meeting on Monday.
The new contract would begin Jan. 1, 2026, and includes the option of extending the term.
This comes as the current waste collection and disposal contract is expiring at the end of the year.
Meaford issued a request for proposal in June to take over residential waste, recycling, and municipal dumpster collection.
There will be several operational and legislative changes, these include the blue box program transition, where responsibility for the blue box program will shift from municipalities to producers.
Additionally, the other changes include waste management dumpsters being removed at the end of the year and Miller Waste dumpsters being moved to existing dumpster locations, as well as cart based automated collection and cart tracking, which can be phased in as directed by Meaford council.
