Grey County Council is going to consider having staff begin the needed studies to develop a new paramedic base in Dundalk.
Grey County Paramedics operate from a number of bases in the region including in Dundalk. It’s current base is also home to the Southgate Fire Department.
Deputy CAO Niall Lobley says Southgate, particularly Dundalk, continues to see significant growth, which is driving pressure within the Southgate Fire Department for new equipment.
As a result, the Township of Southgate has requested Grey County Paramedics move out over the next 12 to 18 months.
“Staff are recommending the development of a new Dundalk paramedic base built to the same specifications, size and design as the Feversham base being developed in 2026, in Dundalk, located on county owned lands associated with the Operations Yard and Sand Dome in Dundalk, on Glenelg Street/Grey Street West,” says Lobley in a report.
The proposed property is a little over three acres in size and has a five-bay garage, sand dome, above ground fuel tanks, and office space.
Lobley says there is existing space on the property to locate a standalone paramedic base.
Based on the tendered price for the future Feversham paramedic base, staff are recommending council approve over $2.4 million be included in the 2026 budget for the project.
Council will consider having staff begin the needed studies to develop the new paramedic base during its meeting on Thursday.
