A new energy storage facility is being proposed in West Grey.
Council got the details from Skyline Energy about the proposed Hanover Battery Energy Storage Site (BESS) during a meeting on Tuesday.
The proposed facility would be located on Normanby-Bentinck Townline in Neustadt and would include about 16 20-foot shipping containers generating seven megawatts over an eight hour period.
The energy storage facility would provide backup power when needed while also managing and assisting the local electricity grid.
Skyline says the facility would create more local jobs as well as generate additionally money for the municipality.
The proposed facility is currently in the pre-project phase before project design and permitting and construction moves forward next year, and the site becomes operational in 2028.
After a 20-year period, the facility would be decommissioned.
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) is looking for energy and capacity infrastructure in the coming years, and this round of proposals ends Dec. 18.
Skyline Energy is looking for municipal support to submit the proposal.
An introductory presentation about the proposed project is scheduled for this month at a community meeting.
