
The Attack held on.
Pierce Mbuyi and Tristan Delisle scored empty-net goals as the Owen Sound Attack held off a rally from the Windsor Spitfires to win 6-3 in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday afternoon at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
The Attack (5-2) ended a string of back-to-back losses. While Windsor (7-1) took its first loss of the season.
Mbuyi scored twice for the Attack, which jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Masen Wray, Lenny Greenberg Nick Sykora and Delisle also had goals.
Liam Greentree had a pair of goals for Windsor. Jack Nesbitt also scored.
The Attack led 4-0 early in the second, after Wray scored on a breakaway 3:35 into the period. The Spitfires would cut the lead to 4-1 before the period ended. And then found a pair in the third.
Greentree’s second of the game was a shorthanded goal with 3:23 remaining in the third period, cutting Owen Sound’s lead to 4-3.
Then the empty-netters came. Carter George, took three shots of his own at the empty-net. One whistled down, the other was knocked down in the neutral zone but led to Delisle’s goal. The Attack goaltender picked up an assist on the play.
Owen Sound outshot Windsor 34-29 while going 1 for 9 on the power play; while the Spitfires finished 2 for 4. Carter George made 26 saves in the win. Michael Newlove stopped 28 taking the loss.
