Two people were arrested in West Grey yesterday and now face charges in relation to a series of alleged thefts across southern Ontario.
Hanover Police say a male suspect stole several items from a pharmacy in Hanover Tuesday afternoon, and then fled from the store.
“He ran into a nearby bush lot before being picked up by a female accomplice in an awaiting vehicle,” police say in a release.
The vehicle was located later on near Durham. West Grey Police arrested the two suspects, who were transported back to the Hanover Police station for further investigation.
Police officers searched the suspects’ vehicle and say they recovered nearly $5,000 in merchandise allegedly stolen from various stores in Grey, Huron and Perth counties throughout the day yesterday. Headphones, perfumes, tools and baby formula were among the stolen goods recovered.
A 27-year-old man and 31-year-old woman, both from Toronto, were charged with several counts of theft and possession of stolen property, and other offences.
“The suspects’ motor vehicle was seized under the Highway Traffic Act and towed to a secure compound,” Hanover Police say. “It will remain impounded at the owner’s expense until the conclusion of the court proceedings or as otherwise directed by the courts.”
