Huron County Council is putting support behind exploring natural gas service expansion within the region.
The Province of Ontario has posted a call for feedback from municipalities, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders as a part of the Consultation of Community Natural Gas Expansion.
The expansion of natural gas service would help the county with adding additional housing units, and help with rural properties within the county to have affordable utilities.
Huron County is working to add more than 10,000 new housing units by 2051, and with council endorsing access to natural gas as an option, staff has been directed to submit comments to the province.
