Premier Doug Ford was in Markdale today to make an announcement along with the owners of Chapman’s Ice Cream.
Chapman’s announced a 200-million dollar expansion – and Ford announced the province’s Invest Ontario program will kick in 27 million dollars toward it.
Ashley Chapman said since the trade war began the company has been decoupling with American suppliers and transitioning to as much Canadian content as possible, in fact the ice cream is made using only Canadian milk.
Ford said making the province more competitive and resilient is the goal of Protect Ontario – and the expansion is a good example of that.
To that end Chapman’s will be looking to crack the European market starting next year.
The new factory is expected to be open in Spring and will create 200 additional jobs in the company.
