HockeyFest is returning in Owen Sound this fall.
The city, Owen Sound Ice Hawks and local schools are teaming up to present the third annual community-wide celebration of the game from Thursday, Nov. 13 to Saturday, Nov. 15
The three-day event will kick off Nov. 13 at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre with East vs. West high school games between Owen Sound District Secondary’s and St Mary’s’ boys and girls hockey teams.
School visits, on-ice hockey, refereeing and scorekeeping clinics, ball hockey in the River District and a USports women’s game between the University of Waterloo Warriors and Toronto Varsity Blues are also planned for HockeyFest this year.
“It’s about sharing a love for the game,” Owen Sound’s Director of Community Services Pam Coulter says. “And giving some young people a chance to experience it. Whether it’s in scorekeeping or refereeing, or just getting on the ice and learning what it is to be a university athlete and giving them something to shoot for.”
HockeyFest will be held during the same weekend as the Owen Sound Ice Hawks Northern Lights Lady Classic tournament, and the Owen Sound Santa Claus parade and launch of the Festival of Northern Lights.
“It’s going to be a great weekend,” Coulter says.
You can find the complete schedule of events for HockeyFest on the city’s website.
