The mayor of Arran-Elderslie spent his time advocating for the Chesley Hospital while at the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference this past week.
Steve Hammell and CAO Emily Dance attended the conference in Ottawa from Aug. 17 to the 20 with other municipal leaders and senior staff from across the province.
The annual event gives municipalities the chance to discuss issues like healthcare and infrastructure with provincial officials.
While at the conference, the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie says Hammell and Dance met with Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones to discuss the future of the Chesley Hospital, and highlight its importance to the community.
Hammell says meeting with Jones was a critical opportunity to reinforce the importance of the Chesley Hospital.
“We are committed to working with the province to ensure sustainable healthcare solutions for our community,” says Hammell.
The Chesley Hospital has experienced a staffing shortage which has resulted in ER closures and service reductions.
