Community Living Owen Sound and District has a new community participation space.
The organization held an Open House Wednesday to show off the new space at 1285 2nd Avenue East, after marking the official grand opening on Aug. 15.
“This is our space to connect all of the beautiful people in our community with the wider community,” Community Living Owen Sound and District Communications Manager Heather Travis says. “We have an opportunity to connect with community partners, do activities, culinary activities, arts, crafts, a wide variety of things in this beautiful space.”
Community Living Owen Sound and District helps people with developmental needs live, work and fully participate in the community.
The community participation program supports nearly 200 adults with engaging and innovative programming that enriches lives and strengthens the wider community. According to the Community Living website, the program is funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, and helps people engage in the community by fostering new relationships, volunteering, enhancing life skills and other activities.
Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy attended the official opening: “It’s really an inspiring space here. There’s lots of windows. It’s really nicely decorated. And I think people using it are really going to enjoy it. It’s great to be able to link out to the community from here.”
