The 37th annual McDonald’s Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular is set to be bigger and better.
Event Co-Chair Chris Geberdt says ahead of the event, they have been seeing excellent quality fish and have several activities planned for the 10-day derby running from Aug. 22 to the 31.
“We have got the kids fishing pond, fishing frenzy for the full 10 days,” says Geberdt. “We have lots of good entertainment.”
Additionally, the popular event will be hosting live music as well as dedicated Kids, Seniors and Ladies Days and will be adding a third fish fry day on Aug. 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
“Just the vast amount of activities that we have in the tent. We have the birds of prey, the reptilian show, we have on the Ladies Day a cooking episode with blackened salmon,” says Geberdt.
Geberdt adds he is expecting over 60,000 people to pass through the tent this year, which is on par with the about 62,000 who attended the event last year.
So far, Geberdt says they have sold 1,600 to 1,800 derby tickets and the boat draw is sold out.
“We look forward to a great event,” says Geberdt.
Tickets will be available at the tent at the Georgian Shores Marina in Owen Sound, and more details can be found on the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association website here.
