The Town of Saugeen Shores is receiving $17.9-million in provincial funding for upgrades to the Southampton Water Pollution Control Plant.
Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson made the announcement in a release sent out Thursday about housing-enabling water systems funding being doled out by the government.
“We are deeply grateful for this substantial investment from the Province of Ontario,” Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau says in a prepared statement. “These upgrades to our wastewater infrastructure are a vital step in building a vibrant future for our community, ensuring that Saugeen Shores can continue to welcome sustainable growth.”
The upgrades to the water pollution control plant — which include a new headworks and pumping station, and a flow equalization tank — are expected to enable the construction of more than 1,600 new homes in Saugeen Shores.
