Grey Bruce OPP is providing tips to combat against the rise in trailer thefts.
Police say there has been a recent increase in trailer thefts in the area, including stolen utility, boat, and enclosed cargo trailers, which are often taken from driveways, farm properties and business lots.
Some tips to prevent trailer theft include:
-Park trailers in secure, well-lit areas not easily visible from the road.
-Use wheel locks and hitch locks to deter easy towing.
-Remove trailer tiers or hitches when not in use.
-Install motion-sensor lighting or security cameras near trailer storage locations.
-Etch unique identifiers or serial numbers onto the trailer frame.
-Keep a record of trailer details including the VIN, license plate, and photos to assist police.
-Stay vigilant.
