Hanover Police are continuing with a traffic campaign focused on loud exhaust systems and aggressive driving.
The southern Grey County town’s police service launched an enforcement initiative known as Project Noisemaker in May, in response to community concerns and complaints. Hanover Police officers have been paying extra attention to aggressive driving, and vehicles generating loud, unnecessary noise
According to Hanover Police, drivers can be ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for improper muffler and unnecessary noise — infractions that carry set fines of $110.
Since the enforcement campaign began in May, Hanover Police have ticketed 35 drivers and issued 22 warnings for various infractions, including improper mufflers, unnecessary noise, speeding, careless driving and others.
“We have received positive community feedback and believe that drivers are starting to get the message that loud vehicles and aggressive driving are not welcome or tolerated on our streets,” says Hanover Police Chief Chris Knoll in a media release.
