Collingwood OPP are investigating a suspicious incident that occurred in the early morning hours of today (Wednesday July 23) that led to the recovery of stolen SUV.
Just after midnight officers responded to a report of a male checking vehicles with a flashlight in Lockhart subdivision. The suspect was driving a 2023 Dodge Durango, later confirmed to be stolen from York region. It was later seen on Stanley Street.
The suspect would not stop for police and fled.
After a coordinated effort by multiple OPP units from Collingwood and Huronia West Detachments to locate the vehicle it was found around 1:30am – a spike belt on hwy 26 near Collham Road stopped the suspect vehicle, but the driver fled on foot.
The canine unit and officers from the Emergency Response Team did not locate the suspect.
OPP ask area residents to check home surveillance footage and are canvassing the areas involved.
