The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is participating in National Drowning Prevention Week.
The awareness campaign takes place from July 20-26th.
This year’s theme is “Safer Together”, and highlights the collective responsibility when it comes to staying safe in and around the water.
The event is coordinated by the Lifesaving Society, and is promoting key strategies such as:
– Always swimming within arm’s reach when supervising young children around water
– Swimming in areas that are supervised by lifeguards
– Avoiding swimming or boating alone
– Staying sober around water, since alcohol and cannabis impair judgement, balance, and reflexes
– Making informed decisions when near open water
The YMCA is hosting two free community swims on Sunday, July 20th thanks to a generous donation from Ontario Power Generation.
The free swims will be happening at the YMCA Health, Fitness & Aquatics centre in Owen Sound from 11:30 am – 2 pm, and at the Blue Dolphin Pool in Meaford from 12:30 – 3 pm.
