Several road and waterway disruptions are planned today for the Owen Sound Triathlon.
The annual Subaru Triathlon Series makes its return to the city, featuring sprint and Olympic distance races.
It is being held at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park, and the city says over 400 athletes will be swimming, cycling and running through Owen Sound.
To ensure a safe event, a number of road closures and traffic disruptions will be in effect as of 7 a.m.
The full road closures will be along 1st Avenue West from the pedestrian bridge into Kelso to the 10th Street Bridge, westbound right turn lane from the 10th Street Bridge, and 1st Avenue East/17th Street East to the second turnaround point.
Additionally, only local traffic will be permitted along 11th Street West from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue, 12th Street West from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue, 13th Street West from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue, 14th Street West from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue, 11th Street East from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue, and 17th Street East to 2nd Avenue East.
Cyclists will also be riding along Grey Road 1 as part of the triathlon. While there is no lane or road closure, drivers are reminded to share to road and to only pass when safe to do so.
The roads are expected to reopen by 3:30 p.m.
Local boaters are also being advised of the about 200 swimmers who will be in the water during each of the swim times and the safety boats which will be stationed to monitor the area.
The city says Transport Canada is not expecting any commercial traffic to the Owen Sound Public Port during this time.
Swimmers will be in the water between 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
