Owen Sound ‘s River District came alive over the weekend with the annual Hottest Street Sale event.
Hundreds descended on the city’s downtown core on Saturday where over 200 vendors had set up shop.
River District Community Services Department Coordinator Viveca Gravel says it was great to see so many people out enjoying the event.
“The serious shoppers, they are here at 8 a.m. sharp ready to go, ready to find the hottest deals,” says Gravel.
She adds the local vendors are always thrilled to take part in the event.
“They have all made friends from this event, they have gotten to know each other and it really is just a community of small local artisans and businesses,” says Gravel.
Some of the vendors included Southampton Olive Oil Company, Scenic City Games Emporium, and The Cook’s Cupboard, as well as various food stalls.
In addition to the vendors, there were also several activities for children, as well as demonstrations from local groups, and live music from musicians coming to Summerfolk and those who took part in the Youth Discoveries concert.

Gravel says the event draws a large crowd every year to the River District.
“There are people who come up to their cottages and they come to this event every single year. People come from as far as the GTA to come and spend the day here,” says Gravel. “This signifies that people understand the importance of supporting local businesses and supporting the local community. It’s a way to bring people down to the River District who may not be familiar with it, get them reacquainted and really learn and see what we have here and just bring everybody together for a really fun good time.”
