The Goderich Port Management Corporation is lobbying support for securing funding to add up to 11 acres of wharf space.
During Monday’s council meeting, President Frank Hurkmans said that the organization is seeking funding from both the federal government through the Federal National Trade Corridor Fund, as well as from the provincial government.
Council approved the $50,000 request from the Port Expansion Reserve Fund.
In 2024, $50,000 was received by the GPMC from Wellington Dupont.
Hurkmans is also hoping that the Town of Goderich would provide the port with a pickup truck that would be designated as a Port of Goderich Patrol vehicle.
Council deferred a decision on a vehicle for patrolling the port until they received a report from staff.
