North Stars lacrosse scores from the weekend of July 5-6.
U19
The Owen Sound North Stars TC U19 girls had a big day on the field Saturday in Peterborough, showing both resilience and offensive firepower across two matchups.
In the early game, the North Stars put in a strong defensive effort against a fast and physical Burlington Blaze 1 team. The defensive unit held tight through the first three quarters, backed by a stellar performance from goalie Marly Woodhouse, who made numerous key saves to keep the game within reach. Despite the solid defensive stand, the North Stars lost momentum in the final quarter and fell 13-5
Goals in the game came from Ella McCoubrey, Ryann Seaman, Lily Shute, Megan Nissen, and Mya Good, showing the team’s ability to capitalize on their chances against a tough opponent.
The second game saw Owen Sound bounce back in a big way, unleashing a dominant offensive performance in an 18-5 win over Beaches 2. From the opening faceoff, the North Stars applied constant pressure and moved the ball with confidence, racking up six goals in the first quarter alone.
Ryann Seaman led the charge with 4 goals, while Ella McCoubrey, Avery Seaman, and Sarah Barfoot each notched hat tricks. Michelle Kocher and Megan Nissen added 2 goals apiece, and Hennessy Koeslag chipped in with one.
With strong goaltending, determined defense, and a well-balanced attack, the North Stars made a clear statement that they’re a team to watch as the season continues.
U11
The U11 Owen Sound Fire Department North Stars girls team hit the field for back-to-back game days this past weekend in Orangeville, delivering an impressive series of performances.
On Saturday, with just eight players and a goalie, the North Stars showed grit and determination under the summer sun. They opened strong with a dominant 17–5 victory over the Mimico Mountaineers. Goals came from Mila Minard (7), Dani Adair (5), Clara Patterson (2), with singles from Evelyn Scholl, Frankie LaValley, and Meyer Quaid.
In their second matchup, the North Stars edged out the Oakville Lady Hawks in a nail-biting 14–13 win, maintaining their lead from start to finish. Meyer Quaid led the scoring with 4 goals, followed by doubles from Clara Patterson, Dani Adair, Mila Minard, and Rowan Elmore. Single scoring contributions also came from Evelyn Scholl and Frankie LaValley.
With a fuller bench on Sunday, the North Stars continued their winning streak with two more solid victories. They first faced the Orillia Lady Kings 1 and came away with a 13–10 win. Aubrey Walker and Mila Minard each netted three goals, with Dani Adair and Meyer Quaid contributing two apiece. Emily Gladwell, Frankie LaValley, and Heidi Singh each added a goal to round out the scoring.
To cap off the weekend, the North Stars defeated the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks 2 team 11–7. Mila Minard led the charge with five goals, while Aubrey Walker and Dani Adair each added two. Clara Patterson and Meyer Quaid each added singles.
Throughout the weekend, the team showcased strong play on both ends of the field. Goaltender Aniya Sutch was a standout, delivering key saves and maintaining a commanding presence in net across both days.
The U11 North Stars are back in action July 25–27 as they head to Oakville for the provincial championships.
U9
Owen Sound Krueger Custom Steel North Stars U9 girls battled hard all weekend in scorching summer heat in Orangeville, showing incredible toughness, focus, and determination with every shift.
In net for the weekend were Addy Mitchell and Kirby Hiepel, who both turned in outstanding performances.
Owen Sound North Stars 21 – Burlington Blaze 8
The North Stars opened the weekend with a bang, overwhelming the Burlington Blaze in a high-scoring affair.
•Owen Sound poured in 8 goals in the first period alone and didn’t look back.
•Camille Spencer and Addy Mitchell were unstoppable early, with strong support from Logan Quaid, Grace Gunn, Lilly Barnard, and Wrenley Shlakat.
•A complete team effort and explosive offense earned them their second win of the season.
Oakville Lady Hawks 9 – Owen Sound North Stars 7
In a tough battle later that day, Owen Sound fell just short against the undefeated Oakville Lady Hawks.
•Despite being outscored 3–1 in each of the first three quarters, the North Stars mounted a late comeback.
•Camille Spencer, Logan Quaid, and Grace Gunn all found the back of the net, with Lilly Barnard adding a key goal.
•The team showed grit, but Oakville’s early lead held up.
Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks 13 – Owen Sound North Stars 9
In another offensive shootout, Owen Sound couldn’t contain the relentless Kodiaks.
•Camille Spencer opened the scoring just 10 seconds in and added another soon after.
•Logan Quaid netted a hat trick, with additional goals from Grace Gunn and Wrenley Shlakat.
•Owen Sound kept it close through the second and third periods but were outpaced in the final frame.
Oshawa Lady Blue Knights 10 – Owen Sound North Stars 7
In their fourth and final game of the weekend, the North Stars gave everything they had in a thrilling but tough loss to Oshawa.
•Grace Gunn was the standout, delivering a five-goal masterpiece, including a late-game surge to pull Owen Sound within reach.
•Logan Quaid added two goals, continuing her consistent scoring streak
•Despite Oshawa’s balanced attack, the North Stars never backed down and kept the pressure on until the final whistle preparing them for provincials in Oakville July 26.
