Huronlea Home for the Aged will be getting new boilers after Huron County council awarded the tender for the replacement project.
The existing boilers were installed in 1992, which means that they are now beyond their expected lifespan.
Huronlea has been having issues with the existing boilers since November 2024, when both boilers failed, causing a no heat situation. A Critical Incident had to be reported to the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care.
The work for replacing the boilers will be carried out by Montgomery Industrial Services Ltd, and will cost the county $486,410.
The three boilers at Huronview, meanwhile, are also prioritized for replacement as they are also beyond their expected service life and are inefficient.
A report from May 21st showed that funds from the 2025 HVAC Projects at both homes was reallocated for the Huronlea boiler replacement, which is expected to start by the end of this summer. The boilers at Huronview are expected to be replaced in the Spring of 2026.
