A pillar of the Owen Sound community has passed away.
Jan Chamberlain died suddenly on Canada Day from leukemia at Brightshores Owen Sound.
She’s remembered for her decades of serving her community through civic engagement, serving on Owen Sound council, presiding over the YM-YWCA, coordinating community events, serving with Children’s Aid, and co-creating a private business called Creative Career Systems.
Predeceased by her husband Dr. George Chamberlain and daughter Sally Hunt, she leaves behind three children, five grandchildren, and 22 nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her two sisters.
Chamberlain was recognized for her work and dedication earlier this year, receiving both the King Charles III Coronation Medal, and recognition from the Canadian Federation of University Women.
According to her obituary, she will be cremated and interred alongside her husband at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in a private family event.
A community-based Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
You can make donations on her behalf to the Chamberlain Family Fund, which is part of the Grey Bruce Community Foundation.
