A radiothon fundraiser for the two hospitals on the Bruce Peninsula raised $40,000.
The first annual Checkerboard Challenge radiothon fundraiser on Bayshore Broadcasting’s 97.9 The Bruce was held on Friday, June 20th.
Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation Executive Director April Patry says, “It was so warmly received. Not just the money that we raised but the awareness. To have eight hours of radio dedicated to the local healthcare system in our community that supports it. That’s so special.”
Volunteers were at a number of local grocery stores collecting donations for the Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation.
97.9 The Bruce morning show hosts Longy and Bruffer were broadcasting from the shops at 84 Main in downtown Lion’s Head.
The Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation supports the hospitals in Wiarton and in Lion’s Head. The foundation says on its website, “We strive to provide our physicians, nurses and technologists with the best equipment to diagnose and treat patients. Medical equipment and technology is constantly changing and improving. With this ongoing challenge our mission is to assist in meeting the health care needs of the people of the Bruce Peninsula area by raising funds for priority hospital projects to keep our hospitals current.”
